What a game this was.
The Warriorlock is an RPG where you grab a party and go on an adventure. You know, standard RPG stuff. The game follows Harry Longshaft (yes) as he departs to find a witch and deliver something or some such to them. It’s really just a contrivance to move your character forward and isn’t that important. The real thing to enjoy here is the writing. The first third or so of the game is filled with a lot of text that is just ridiculous and fun. Is it well-written? Sometimes. But mostly it’s just unexpected. This writing does drop off towards the latter half of the game, which is kind of unfortunate because I would’ve liked to have seen more, but it’s still a lot of fun. One thing to look out for (and play the game multiple times) is the character interactions of your party. There’s actually a decent amount there, and it tends to be pretty fun.
The game’s systems are present. I can’t tell you if they were good or not, but I did enjoy the fact that I could just dodge all the fights I wanted to while still running forward. It does seem like some of the systems aren’t super necessary like the armor upgrades which I just fully ignored in my playthrough, and I never found any weapon upgrades or new weapons specifically. I also had no idea how the stats worked. But none of that seemed to really deter me as I bumbled through the game. The fights were challenging, but still remotely fair feeling.
As for length, it took me about 5-6 hours to finish a playthrough, which is honestly decent when you consider the cost of the game. Plus you could try playing it again for different character dialog and interactions if you felt like it, or if you wanted to try some other things.
All in all, it’s a recommend from me if you want to have a fun little experience.
